Here's a photo of Sarah Hyland at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle Miss Golden Globe 2014 Party on the 21st of November, 2013. At first glance it looks like Sarah cut her hair in a pixie. This is a fun up-style to mimic a pixie look.

Actually, I think that she would look good with a pixie. She has a perfect "pixie-face", with her oval-form face and beautifully high and striking cheekbones. Sarah's naturally dark brown hair is highlighted with subtle medium- and light brown streaks to achieve that lovely gloss and movement.

To imitate this look at home, it's easier to use hair that has been washed the day before. This is because there is a slight oil build-up on the hair-shaft, meaning that the hair holds better in an up-style and is easy manageable.

Comb all the hair back and secure it with a hairband. Then use the sharp-end of a foiling-comb and pull pieces of hair on top and on the sides of the head in an upward direction, to loosen the hairstyle and create volume. Note how all Sarah's hair is pulled directly backwards.

When you've achieved the volume that Sarah is wearing here, spray the hair on top with a medium- to strong hold hairspray. Secure the ponytail at the back in a messy bun. Complete the look with a shine spray, a sparkling smile and confidence. This look works well for women with an oval-shaped face and high cheekbones.
