Here's a beautiful photo of Hilary Rhoda at the 2014 Fragrance Awards in New York City on June 16, 2014. Her medium-length light brown hair is layered at the tips to create a beautifully textured effect. It almost looks as if she had her hair in a more formal up-style, swept away from her face, then loosened it and combed her fingers through it.

The easiest way to copy this look is to work with hair that was washed a day ago, so it has slight kinks and waves. Section off the hair and secure it with clips while working from the back to the front. Select only a piece of hair here and there in each section. Spray that piece of hair with heat protector and straighten it with your straightening iron. Take care not to straighten too much of the hair, because then you'll lose that slightly messy look. It's important that the hair has slight waves and kinks.

When you're done, spray your hair with a light-hold hairspray, and throw your head back and forth four or five times. Comb your fingertips through your hair to smooth it down, but not too much. You want it to look a bit messy and slightly wild.
