Candela Wax
Candela wax is combined with oil to give more body to lipsticks.
 
Capryloyl Glycin
An amino acid with antiseptic, anti-microbial properties, as effective as benzoyl peroxide in combating bacteria found in acne. Commonly used in acne medications, but does not dry or irritate as much as peroxide.
 
Carcinogen
A substance that is known to cause cancer.
 
Castor Oil
Extract of the castor bean, an oil that is naturally soothing to the skin.
 
Cellulite
Cellulite is the word used to refer to the fatty deposits that cause a dimpled or uneven appearance of the skin, usually around the thighs and buttocks.
 
Centella Asiatica
Scientific name for "Gotu Kola", a natural herb found only in Madagascar, known to be beneficial in skin cleansing, reduction of visible wrinkles, dark under-eye circles, and cellulite. Also said to help to firm and heal s tretch marks.
 
Ceramides
Ceramides is a substance that protects the skin against moisture loss. It’s also synthetically-reproduced in skin care products.
 
Cetearyl Glucoside
A compound of glucose and cetearyl alcohol (emulsifying wax) that helps skin and hair retain natural moisture. Glucose occurs naturally in sugars.
 
Cetyl Alcohol
A compound derived either from natural coconut oil or can be synthetically produced. Used as an emollient and emulsifier. (Not actually an alcohol.)
 
Chamomile
A natural herb producing daisy-like white & yellow flowers, known to reduce inflammation, swelling, and soothe skin irritation. Easily grown in the home herb garden.
 
Chemical Exfoliants
A chemical exfoliant is applied to the skin and chemically softens the keratinized tissue. Common ingredients are glycolic or alpha-hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and papaya. These remove layers of the skin simply by their application.
 
Citric acid
Citric acid has many uses. It’s used in skincare products as an astringent and an antioxidant.
 
Clarifying
Clarifying lotion is the toner part of a cleansing system that balances the pH of the skin after cleansing.
 
Collagen
Collagen is a natural part of the skin, but it can be increased in volume with injections to plump up a certain area. Those women who want that full pouty look can have collagen injected into their lips.
 
Cucumber juice
Cucumber juice is used on the face to tighten the pores and stop the skin from drying out.
 
Dehydration
Dehydration is the lack of moisture, not oil, in the skin. Dehydration causes the skin to look less plump, healthy, flat, dull and off-color. It may be caused by very cold or hot weather, medication, illness, or harsh chemicals. When you drink enough water in your diet, moisture starts in the germinative layer of the skin and slowly rises to the surface hydrating the skin. Surface skin may be helped using moisturizers to replenish the moisture balance in the skin.
 
Depilation
Depilation is the process of removing hair from the skin.
