How to Cut an Inverted Bob (2)

8. Now you’re ready to start with the side sections. Note how the hair from the back is slightly longer at the edges of the weight line. We will now be cutting the sides at an angle which allows them to become progressively longer towards the front of the face.

These are the main characteristics of an inverted bob; shorter at the back with progressively longer sides framing the face.

9. Draw out your first two inch section using the sharp end of your tail comb. Clip the rest of the hair securely out of the way, and neatly comb the hair that you will proceed to cut.

10. Cut this section with an angle, shorter at the back and progressively longer towards the front. Note that there are no hooks or curves present on this line. It is a straightforward even line which runs from short at the back to longer towards the front. The tips of the longer front end should be anywhere between the model’s cheekbone to her shoulders, depending on the desired length of the inverted bob.

11. Repeat the previous step again. Remember to keep using the original weight-line as a guide throughout the side stages of the cut as well. Always comb the hair neatly downwards while cutting, making sure that the hair is being cut at a consistent length throughout the entire cut.

12. Release the last section of this side parting and cut the hair in line with the bottom section. Note the tips of this model’s hair from the front view will touch her shoulders, meaning that the cut will look relatively long from the front while it looks quite short and manageable from the back. This is what makes this style so versatile and popular. It is a universally modern style, yet extremely easy to maintain and style on your own.

13. Now you will be repeating exactly the same steps on the other side of the model’s head. Remember that it is paramount that you keep checking that the length on both sides of your model’s head corresponds with the original weight-line at the back of the head.

It’s equally important that the two side sections are almost mirror images of one another. Thus continually check in the mirror that the two sides align perfectly and correspond in length and thickness. The last thing you want is an asymmetrical inverted bob when the client wanted a conventional angled bob.
