Indigo Rye

L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2007 Regional Finalist

heavy fringe hairstyle When it comes to creating exceptional hair colour and the hottest catwalk looks for men, a team of hairdressers from Indigo Rye in Wallingford have proved they are among the best in the UK having made it through to the Grand Final of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2007.

Holly Rudge and Judith Handcock beat off stiff competition from thirty-nine salons across the Midlands region to clinch their place in the Grand Final in London on Monday 21 May. They are now one step closer to winning the prestigious L’Oréal Men’s Image Award and a once-in-a-lifetime prize that could see them jetting over to New York to produce a photo spread for fashion bible Vogue.

At the Midlands Regional Final their live hairdressing skills were put under the spotlight by a panel of top hairdresser judges including Errol Douglas, Sean Dawson, Dylan Bradshaw and David Lambert. Industry luminary and guest judge Dylan Bradshaw commented; “It’s always good to see the Midland’s region raising the bar. There was some really interesting work on the floor making it a difficult competition to judge both for the men’s and the women’s.”

The team had just thirty minutes to create a winning look under the brief ‘hair inspired by fashion’. Using the Autumn/Winter 07 catwalk collections as a starting point, they had to demonstrate an acute understanding of men’s hair and fashion trends. Their model was then sent on to the catwalk to present their creative interpretation in front of an audience of over 300 hairdressers.

Holly and Judith explain the thinking behind their striking image: “We went for a romantic theme with the clothes styling and balanced the floaty layered look with a neat hair cut and natural, understated colour to give maximum shine. The overall style made a strong impact on the catwalk with its heavy fringe and round shape.”

While the judges deliberated, guests were treated to a stunning men’s fashion show from hot young designer Steve J with catwalk hair by Darren Fowler and the Clipso Artistic Team.

The whole room was on tenterhooks waiting to hear who had made it through to the Grand Final and upon hearing their name announced Susan and the team from Indigo Rye leapt off their chairs in delight.

“The standard was really high this year,” explained Holly who has previously made it through to the Grand Final on two occasions. “We were more pleased for our other team than for ourselves as we know how hard you have to work to get through. It just goes to show that if you do the research and follow the brief, you have every chance of making it to the Grand Final and that’s just what we’ve done.”
