Q: I would like to ask the following question: Does gray hair increase due to excess use of hair dryers? Thank You.

A: No. The use of hair dryers has not been shown to have any causal or effectual relationship to the development or progression of gray hair.

If using a blow dryer could increase the process of hair turning gray, people would be becoming gray faster and younger, since many young women use blow dryers on a daily basis.

As far as we currently know, the development of gray hair is controlled by an individual's genetic code and other internal factors. While some factors can be traced to affecting the development of gray hair, such as medications, illness and stress, blow drying the hair is not in any way considered to be a factor in a person going gray.
