Hair Loss Treatments for Women

Women, for a multitude of reasons, can suffer from a highly undesirable condition usually associated with men – baldness. Some causes, like child birth, illness, medication, rapid weight loss, stress, an overload of hair treatments and chemicals such as bleach, are usually temporary. Whilst some causes, usually hereditary, more commonly known as female pattern baldness, can be permanent. Either way, women who experience hair loss at any time in their lives are left desperately searching for a cure, to conform to society’s increasingly pressurized desire to be ‘beautiful’. Here are some of the most popular and effective methods at treating female hair loss:

Wigs and Hair Pieces:

For centuries wigs have been a popular method in disguising hair loss and baldness. This realistic and inexpensive technique has immediate effects. Patients can have the hair they have always dreamed of by buying a quality wig. As wigs and hair pieces have become popular fashion accessories in contemporary society, there is little social stigma about wearing such products. Although the main disadvantage of wigs and hair pieces is that they are not a permanent solution to cure hair loss.

Hair Transplants:

The distress caused by the loss of hair within women is personal and will affect each woman differently. If the female wants a more permanent solution, hair transplants and grafts are an option. These surgical procedures are costly, typically over $10,000, painful and run the risk of infection. Carrying out a comprehensive amount of research about the procedure and finding a reputable hair transplant surgeon is advisable before committing such a large amount of money.

Hair Loss Supplements:

hair loss cure A less invasive but not as immediate method to combat female hair loss is to take a supplement specifically designed for women. Products containing minoxidil, an ingredient celebrated for tackling hair loss, can be bought without a prescription. Provillus contains minoxidil, and is believed to be one the most effective natural hair loss supplements on the market. Provillus has products available explicitly for women. It is wise to ask the advise of somebody in the medical profession before taking such hair loss treatments, as taking unsuitable ones may prove detrimental. Male hair loss products, for example, can contain ingredients which would be harmful to women, especially those of a child-bearing age.

Herbal Remedies:

Some natural ingredients such as saw palmetto, stinging nettles and green tea, are a proven source to inhibit female hair loss, by unblocking clogged hair follicles and encouraging healthy re-growth. The levels of success in using natural remedies to treat hair loss vary considerably from each individual, depending on the severity of the hair loss and the individual expectations of the woman.

Diet and Exercise:

For hair to grow it relies on certain essential vitamins, minerals and protein. If a diet is lacking in such nutrients, healthy hair growth will not be encouraged. It is therefore vital to maintain a well-balanced and nutritious diet. Exercise is of equal importance, as it increases the blood circulation to the scalp, which stimulates hair follicles and encourages them to grow.
