Soul Hairdressing
L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2007 Regional Finalist
When it comes to creating exceptional hair colour and the hottest catwalk looks, a team of hairdressers from Soul Hairdressing in
Belfast have proved they are among the best in the UK having made it through to the Grand Final of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2007.
Mark Robinson and Kelly Thompson from Soul Hairdressing beat off stiff competition from thirty-nine salons from across Northern Ireland to
clinch their place in the Grand Final in London on Monday 21 May. They are now one step closer to winning the prestigious L’Oréal
Colour Trophy and a once-in-a-lifetime prize that could see them jetting over to New York to produce a photo spread for fashion
bible Vogue.
At the Northern Irish final their live hairdressing skills were put under the spotlight by a panel of top hairdresser judges including
Terry Calvert, Zoë Irwin, Nathan Walker and Jamie Brooks. “The standard was incredibly high and it was really good to see competitors
thinking about the total look,” explained Terry Calvert.
The team had just thirty minutes to create a winning look under the brief ‘hair inspired by fashion’. Using the Autumn/Winter 2007
catwalk collections as a starting point, they had to demonstrate an acute understanding of hair and fashion trends. Their model was
then sent on to the catwalk to present their creative interpretation in front of an audience of over 300 hairdressers.
Mark Robinson, salon owner, explains the thinking behind their striking image: “We’ve gone for a very futuristic look as seen on the
catwalks in the Autumn/Winter 07 collections. The outfit incorporates chrome and silver and this strong theme is continued in the hair
with strong lines, a heavy visor fringe and shades of blue, black and raspberry”

While the judges deliberated, guests were treated to a stunning men’s fashion show from hot young designer Steve J with catwalk hair
by the F.A.M.E Team.
The whole room was on tenterhooks waiting to hear who had made it through to the Grand Final and upon hearing their name announced,
the Rogue team leapt off their chairs in delight. They will now go on to London compete amongst forty-five regional finalists from
across the UK at a star-studded live catwalk show, to be held at Earl’s Court.
“We’re absolutely on top of the world,” exclaimed Mark upon receiving the award. “This is the fourth time we’ve entered the
L’Oréal Colour Trophy but it will be the first time we go through to the Grand Final. I can’t describe what a fantastic feeling
it is to get this far.”
