Whether your hair is short, long, or somewhere in between, a romantic hairstyle is an excellent way to add a sexy, ultra-feminine touch to your appearance. Aside from the abundant appeal of romantic hair, achieving the look is also surprisingly easy and offers a wide array of options for every hair type. Following a few simple tips will help you get the perfect look for a first date, anniversary, or simply a night out on the town.

Romantic hair should be soft, shiny, voluminous, and slightly tousled; think Bridget Bardot or Sophia Loren. It is appealing, touchable hair that flatters virtually every woman, regardless of hair texture or face shape.

Step 1: The goal when creating a romantic hairstyle is to achieve lots of volume and body while maintaining softness and shine. To accomplish this, apply a volumizing mousse to damp hair, concentrating the product around the roots and gently working through the hair with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb.

Step 2: Flip your hair over and begin blow-drying upside down. Use your fingers to comb through your hair as you dry. Dry random sections in a haphazard manner in order to create a tousled, unkempt look. Avoid using a comb or paddle brush while drying, which will straighten your hair and reduce volume.

Step 3: Once your hair is completely dry, apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to the ends of your hair. This will help smooth out any frizz and will prevent hair from becoming dry and brittle. Divide the hair into 2-inch sections and roll each section with hot rollers. If your hair is short, use a smaller-barreled curling iron to create volume at the roots and a gentle curl throughout the rest of your hair. Allow the hair to cool completely before removing the hot rollers.

Step 4: Once you have removed the curlers, wait a few more minutes to ensure your curls are completely cool to the touch. If you need to add texture to some curls, use a curling iron with a 2-inch barrel to emphasize individual sections. To add definition and naturalness, vary the direction in which you curl the hair.

Step 5: Use your fingers to separate curls from the roots to the ends of your hair. For a more tousled look, flip your hair over and shake it out upside down. If your hair is excessively curly, try brushing through with a large round brush to shape it into more manageable waves. Set the look with a light mist of hairspray.

These same steps can be used to create a variety of romantic styles. For a very girly look, add several smaller curls around the face. Hair can also be pulled back and pinned with a floral or jeweled clip to draw attention to your features and to complement your hair's sexy volume and texture.

Whatever your hair type, emphasizing the softness, shine, and volume of your hair will create a look that is dramatic and high-impact while remaining touchable and feminine.
