Diary of a Hairdresser
June 24, 2007 9:30 pm
Dear Diary,
I thought Sunday was supposed to be a day of rest, but after church we went to eat and that was great, but when we got home we found
out that there were a bunch of pigeons making a nest on our porch and there was poop all over the place. I love animals, but do not like
their poop on my porch! We didn’t know what to do about this problem and I started to ask different people if they were familiar with
pigeons. Come to find out, if you can manage to put moth balls up there, they will leave. We had to go get our ladder and put moth
balls up there and indeed, they did start to leave. Yay! Things were quieting down for awhile, until Jazz called me telling me how a
neighbor of hers is coming in on Wednesday and wants me to do her hair. Apparently she has been coloring her own hair and wants a new
color. I asked Jazz why this lady wanted me, and she said because she had heard good things about me. Well, that is fine, but I’m just
not into correction and told Jazz that. In the end, I did tell her that I would only look at her hair and suggest what needs to be
done. Jazz will be working on her, not me. I’m glad that is all straightened out. Then Jazz mentioned how she felt Blather was giving
more clients to Ace and Sloopygarflou. Oh, help! I have suspected this, but being Blather is Herminie’s daughter, I really do not know
what we can do about this. This type of problem, is so common in family salons like this. Family first, then the others. What to do?

Dear Diary,
We were slammed today. I have no idea what is going on or where all of the people are coming from. I guess it is a good sign for our
salon to be so popular. Carrie had a client who had long bleached hair all the way down her back and she was begging Carrie to put a
permanent in it. She wanted curls! Curls smurls! No way! In fact, we have some good products, but nothing to deal with something like
that. Carrie literally had her hands full trying to tell her why she couldn’t go that route and about the condition of her hair and
what would happen if she opted for that. None of us at Herminie’s would even consider giving a permanent over such a brittle head of
hair.
I saw Jazz walk over and also try to explain to her exactly what could happen, but this client wouldn’t listen to any reason,
until Ace and Sloopygarflou walked over and talked to her. Will someone tell me, why a woman will listen more to a man at times. I wish
someone would give me an answer to this worldwide question. I have to admit, they were smooth. Ace went into great lengths describing
in complete professional detail, the technical problems that would arise if she were to put chemicals on her hair, and she listened to
him! Sloopygarflou nodded and agreed with Ace while picking up sections of her hair and when Ace took a deep breath, he stuck his two
cents in, telling her about how she would be a bombshell if she fashioned her hair like Tea Leoni’s. After all this, there is a happy
ending, she ended up allowing Carrie to give her the new haircut.

Dear Diary,
It’s been raining outside since early this morning and it came down so hard I barely could see what was in front of me on the highway.
Scary. While I was coming home I saw the water rising quite fast under the bridge. When I got home, I had to turn around and take
Klondike to the vet to get his shots. The weekend is creeping up again and this time I have to go to a friends birthday bash. It should
be a lot of fun and entertaining, as she went to great lengths hiring impersonators to bring some laughs. She is also having her family
from the north come.
I had a lady walk into the salon today that had the kind of hair I actually have never seen before. With all of my experience, I have
never seen hair like what she had. She had very kinky hair only in spots, and in the other areas she had subtle curls. I was wondering
how this came to be and even asked her about it. She did say, she was in an accident when she was a child and hit her head. Perhaps
this resulted from nerve damage. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you are proven you haven’t. I had a difficult time styling
her hair and making it all flow in unity, as the kinky parts wanted to be more curly and the less curly areas wanted to relax. What a
challenge. I also noticed she had colored her hair. Unless she had over bleached certain areas and made them porous enough to
straighten them out, would be another answer why her hair was the why it was. I think the final step, is a good haircut.
