Shag & Round Face
Q: Would a shag hairstyle work well on a round shaped face?
A: I’ve seen a number of round-faced clients who have worn a shag style to good effect. The key is to keep the volume on the sides of the
head low, while styling the layered hair with lift at the top of the head.
It is also recommended with any shag style on a round-faced individual that the length of the
overall cut is below the chin length. One of my dearest friends wears her wavy hair in a shag style. She has a round face and her hair
is shoulder length. When she styles her hair, she blow dries the top of the head using her fingers to keep the hair at the top raised
to maximize the volume at the top. Her dryer is diffused and she only partially dried the sides and ends of the hair, allowing them to
finish drying naturally in order to minimize the volume created there.
Of course, there may be other features that a person with a round face may have which prevents the
shag style from working as well for them. But do keep in mind that there are many different variations to a shag hairstyle, so many
factors can be accommodated. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to discuss matters with your stylist and ask for his or her recommendations.
