Hair Deodorizer

Hair with a bad smell

Q: Hello! I received a body wave two days ago and this is one of the worst smelling ones ever. My friends and family are cracking jokes about skunks smelling better.

I have had a headache since I got my hair done, which is the norm for me after getting a body wave... with the exception of one time approximately 5 years ago. At that time, I had my hair done and the stylist put a product on my hair at the very end to take the bad smell away. It worked wonderfully!

The problem is that I can't remember what the product was, I can't remember who was my stylist at the time, and none of the stylists I've spoken with since have ever heard of the product. Do you have any idea what it could be? It really worked! It wasn't tomato juice or baking soda, by the way...

A: I do know that back several years ago L'Oréal had a product on the market that was a hair deodorizer which was used by many women to combat odors in the hair. It was also used in salons to remove permanent wave odors from freshly permed hair.

However, apparently the product didn't make enough money for the company and was soon discontinued. I don't know if this is the same product used by your stylist before, but it is possible.

Currently, I have found two products on the market that could be helpful in this situation. One is African Pride Fresh Hair Deodorizer and is made specifically for use on hair that is braided to help deodorize and freshen the braids between shampoos, but it can work equally well on many other hair types and problems. The product retails for about $5.00 (U.S. Dollars) for a 2-ounce bottle and comes in Strawberry Floral, Fresh Floral, Cucumber Melon, Coconut Rum, Sweet Amber and Citrus Fruit scents.

The other product is one designed for use by smokers and is a personal deodorizing product called Banish. The product is made of natural ingredients and is reported to remove odor from hair and clothes. While the product is created to remove smoke odors, users have reported that it works well to remove the odor from permanent waving processes.
