A: Shoe Shine Highlighting refers to the technique of using a highlighting tint to create color that is revealed in reflections of
light off the hair. The technique is usually used with darker hair colors and involves adding a tint of color to create a shimmer of
the color desired. For example, a common technique uses burgundy or blue color tinting over black hair. This creates a halo of color when light strikes the hair.
It can also be used on shades lighter than true black, but the effects by necessity must be more
subtle, such as adding golden tints to blonde and brownish toned hair.
The name comes from the effect seen on highly shined shoes where the true color of the dark leather
is only revealed in the reflected light off of the patent leather.
