Hair Damage and Hair Falling Out

Q: Hi, I have short curly/wavy hair which I straighten regularly with a Hi-Lift Ceramic straighter. Would my hair damage and fall out in my later years. I'm 16 years old. If so, how could I keep my hair healthy and prevent it from been damaged?

A: Using heat styling appliances can damage the hair if used improperly or if the hair is not carefully protected with the proper products before exposure to the heated surfaces of the appliance. However, if you are careful with your thermal styling tools, keep your hair well-conditioned and pay close attention to potential warning signs, you can use these tools as you desire and have no worries.

Unless you manage to burn your scalp severely enough to damage the follicles of the hair, there is virtually no risk that using a thermal iron will lead to hair loss from the hair falling out. As mentioned before the hair could be damaged, which can lead to breakage if allowed to continue uncorrected.

Be sure to review our articles on using Thermal Styling Tools for detailed advice on styling your hair with heated appliances.
