A: Checkerboard hairstyles are styles that incorporate some variant of the checkerboard pattern into the styling of the hair, usually
in a shorter style or a shorter area of a style that has multiple lengths. The checkerboard pattern can be achieved through outlining
created using clippers to cut lines that cross to form the check pattern, through the use of color to create alternating squares of color in a checkered pattern.
The most memorable “checkerboard” hairstyle of the recent past was worn by Cyndi Lauper in her
early career, and can be seen in the videos of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. Her bright red-orange hair was
clippered short on one side and had grooves shaved into the style in a checkered pattern that almost mimicked a Scottish tartan.
