Trends for Summer/Autumn 2006
As the summer wears on with temperatures that make fall seem that much further away, the heat
seems to be making everyone think of going lighter. Celebrities from all walks of Hollywood and the entertainment industry seem to be
taking the opportunity to go shorter, add layers and even brighten up their hair color.
One of the most recent splashes made in the media regarding celebrity hair is the story of
Victoria Beckham’s (Posh Spice) new angled-bob. Fueled by rumors that her hair was saying “good-bye” due to over-abuse from extensions,
Ms. Beckham decided to lose the extensions and give her self a smart, new ‘do.
Ms. Beckham’s decision to shear away her troubles takes her from her long locks to a sexy,
sleek style.
Posh’s new look isn’t the only one seen in celebrity circles. “Desperate Housewives” star,
Eva Longoria has decided to lighten her look as well. Her long, layered sable waves have been brought up to a dark golden blonde with
sun-kissed highlights, while the style itself has been trimmed shorter and given smoother layering.
And Eva’s not the only actress who’s going blonde for the summer. It seems that critically-acclaimed actress, Toni Collette, known
for her mousy-brown hair as much as her angst-ridden characters, recently decided to see if she could “have more fun” with brighter
locks. Her new look features a long-layered cut, and wind-blown waves as well as a sun-washed blonde color.
Other celebrities who’ve gone “lighter” have chosen to be more subtle with their color shifts, but with no less dramatic results.
Actress Tara Reid has taken her blonde tresses a step closer to platinum and dropped inches from her length. Keeping her favored
straight style, Tara’s hair is now above the shoulder and styled to spike outward.
Even Kate Hudson has gotten in on the act, shedding inches and losing a little of the
dishwater blonde look in favor of a shorter hairstyle with brighter highlights framing the face and evening out her honey-blonde color, to
put the sunshine back into her look.
So, for those who like to follow the trends of fashion, the keywords this season are
“lighter and brighter”. If you’re tired of your tresses, try losing a little weight – from your hair. Add some layering, or take off
a few inches. Small changes can make a big difference when carefully chosen.
Or, since it is summertime, go for the shade – a lighter one. Brighten up your color by
lifting it a few levels, or adding in some highlights to frame your face or give your hair that sun-kissed look. Also, don’t be a slave
to straight styles, scrunch it up a little, and go for softer, wind-blown waves that can make you look and feel terrific.
