World's Greatest Shave 2005 - Australia
Leukaemia Foundation World's Greatest Shave (WGS) is being held in Australia between 10-12 March
2005.
It is one of Australia's biggest fundraising events, with more than 60,000 Australians shaving or
colouring their hair to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Men, women and children will take
part.
It's a lot of fun and anyone can participate. Go it alone and take part as an
individual or get together with friends, club members or workmates to form
a group.
Shave events will be held across Australia (locations listed on
www.worldsgreatestshave.com)
Thousands of small and big businesses, schools, pubs, clubs,
associations, individuals and even entire towns are taking part.
This year WGS is going for the World Record for the most heads shaved
over a 24 hour period!
The Sydney Swans will be trying out their hairdressing skills down at Australia Square in the CBD on
Friday 11 March for the World's Greatest Shave 2005. The team will be wielding the clippers as
hundreds of brave Sydneysiders lose their locks to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The Swans will also be going for a new look themselves….
Channel 10 Video Hits presenter, Axle Whitehead, will be the master of ceremonies for the
afternoon. Axle will be on hand to reassure anyone who's nervous about their new haircut. He has
already lost his hair live on Good Morning Australia!
If you feel more comfortable in the hands of a hairdresser than a footballer, 2005 AHFA Australian
Hairdresser of the Year, Oscar Cullinan, will be making an appearance to clear up any mistakes!
TAFE hairdressing students will also be colouring and shaving.
The Leukaemia Foundation is the only Australian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and
cure of patients and families living with blood and bone marrow cancers.
Funds raised will ensure the Foundation can improve patients and families quality of life through
personalised and practical care. This includes providing a 'home away from home' at the
Foundation's 16 accommodation centres, support services, counselling, educational programs,
transportation to and from hospital and in some cases, financial assistance.
Money raised will also fund cutting edge research into treatments and cures.
You can sponsor a participant of this charity head shaving event.
