Charity Project Aims to Help Women Undergoing Cancer Treatment with Hair Loss
United Kingdom - My New Hair is the brainchild of Trevor Sorbie, and is a charity organization whose goal is to offer assistance to women suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatments. Mr.
Sorbie was inspired to launch this project after a loved one was diagnosed with cancer.
The aim of My New Hair is to provide specialist training to salons and hairdressers across the country, helping them to understand the needs of cancer patients. With a goal to connect with more than 400 salons
in the next three years, more than 170 salons have signed up so far. Some of these stylists and salons have even created dedicated space in their salons for My New Hair patient/clients.
Senior stylist Lauren Ford spearheaded the project for her salon, Level Hair and Beauty, after being diagnosed with cancer at age 22. Now 24, she has opened a VIP room at the salon especially for My New
Hair clients.
The My New Hair charity, which also provides advice on wig styling, hair loss and re-growth, has received a Department of Health grant for £86,500. Among the support services My New Hair offers are:
• Advice on choosing a wig
• Help choosing the right wig for an individual
• Helping to connect clients with local My New Hair salons
• Providing personalization services for wigs
• Support and aftercare of the hairpieces so a woman can always feel good about her look.
My New Hair promises to make this service accessible to people across the UK and long term, across the world. Many stylists share in this belief and want to help overcome the preconceptions around wearing a wig.
It is our ultimate goal to make this a part of the best standard of care available to people with medical hair loss. We are working nationally to achieve this aim with healthcare organizations and other
charitable initiatives.

J-Cutting and J-Color Live!
Darien, Connecticut, USA - Joico's Carney & Pemberton Kick Off National Education Program Series in San Jose.
The best-selling Joico J-Cutting and J-Color Educational DVDs came to life, recently, when the “stars” of the production hosted a VIP training event based on the series’ techniques and methods. More than 200
beauty pros gathered at the distinctively elegant Dolce Hayes Mansion resort in San Jose for an evening with Joico International Artistic Director Damien Carney and Joico Vero K-PAK Color International Artistic
Director Sue Pemberton. The artists conducted a lively, interactive “Look and Learn” session, covering the J-Cutting and J-Color techniques, which are designed to re-energize fundamental craftsmanship in order
to reawaken professional artistry. The next day, many attendees returned for the optional, hands-on session portion of the program.
This was the first in a series of J-Cutting and J-Color live educational events, scheduled to take place in select locations throughout the country. Carney and Pemberton are scheduled for their next appearance
November 8 and 9 in Dayton, Ohio. According to Carney, the sessions are designed to celebrate the indelible marriage between cut and color and to promote give-and-take, new ideas and problem solving for common
technical and design dilemmas. “It’s very intimate,” Carney says, “and we don’t dictate right or wrong. That’s old school. We make sure that everyone is involved and sharing. It’s much more stimulating that
way and attendees come away with so much more.”
These sessions come at a time when education is more critical than ever before, Carney believes. “Everyone is looking for ways to offer clients something extra in the salon,” he explains, “so that they are
confident that they’re getting the best for their hard earned money. By perfecting the fundamental techniques—like partings, sectioning, over-directing, elevation, etc.—and spending the extra time to get
each cut and color absolutely perfect, stylists can be sure that their clients will notice and tell their friends.”

Andis Offers Styling Tips Online
Sturtevant, Wisconsin, USA - Andis has collected up styling tips from sources across the U.S. and posted them on their Web site for anyone who is eager to jump on the fast track to learn how to
style hair like a pro in the comfort of your own home—or your own deck, if you follow Andis recommendations. The tips are organized into three categories— drying/styling control, curling, and straightening—under
the Consumer tab at www.andis.com. The tips are updated frequently.
“Styling hair at home is a way to save money for families who are looking for budget tightening ideas,” says Fred Koeller, Vice President of Marketing at Andis. “Expert styling requires training and practice.
We’ve put together tips that professionals we admire feel are essential.”
The tips for drying include using a vent brush with holes while blow drying hair as a surefire method of drying hair faster. It’s also recommended that you start the drying process with your fingers, which is
faster than brushes to eliminate the moisture.
There are tips for styling fine hair (low heat and low air flow), for precision styling (use the concentrator), and for increasing volume (flip your head upside down!). There are tips for using curling irons to
produce tighter curls (smaller sections of hair), softer waves (larger sections of hair), heat settings (lower is better), and spiral curls (the candlestick method). And there are tips for straightening hair
(thin sections flatten faster) and how to protect your hair from heat damage (a thermal protectant spray) and recommendations on which tools are best.
Andis Company, a family held business founded in 1922, is a leading manufacturer of handheld tools to trim, cut, curl, straighten and dry hair. The company’s products are purchased worldwide by barber and
beauty shops, consumers, hotels, motels, resorts, small animal groomers and large animal groomers and shearers. To find a local distributor, call the company at 800-558-9441 or visit their website at www.andis.com.
