London, United Kingdom – Hairdressing luminary Akin Konizi of hob salons was recently flown the other side of the
world to accept the prestigious 2008 British Masters Award at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards, celebrating the leaders in the
Australian hair and fashion industry.
Following in the footsteps of icons such as Trevor Sorbie, Mark Hill, Errol Douglas and Beverly C, Akin
was delighted to be the recipient of this award, which recognises those who have achieved excellence in the hair fashion industry and
are respected worldwide as leaders, entrepreneurs and masters of their craft.
Twice nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year (2006 & 2007) and winner of numerous titles
including British Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year 2006/7, UK’s Most Wanted Fine Artist 2006/7 and the British Hairdressing Awards
London Hairdresser of the Year 2005/6, Akin Konizi can now add this international award to his impressive list of accolades.
Having judged the Australian Hair Fashion Awards in the UK in December 2007, Akin also presented the
ultimate Australian Hairdresser of the Year award to Robert Bava of Parlour Hair (SA), on the night, which took place at The Westin
Hotel, Sydney on 17 March 2008.
Presented by Managing Director & Publisher of Australian Hairdressers Journal and Founder of the
Australian Fellowship of Hairdressing, Michelle Sewell introduced Akin Konizi as ‘the libertine of British hairdressing’, saying ‘To
be named a British Master of the craft is the quintessential icing on the cake, as the candidate for this award is nominated by their
peer’s internationally.
For years we’ve been hearing from his peers about his genius and tonight Akin joins the ranks of British
hairdressing royalty with this award. His work is truly inspirational, a fusion of the best of Sassoon and the raw energy that
symbolises British street and hair fashion’.
Whilst in Australia, Akin also undertook several interviews with high profile Australian consumer
magazines such as Russh, Famous and Who Weekly and styled the hair for ‘The Frets’ rock band that performed on the night of the
AHFA’s.
Of his trip Down Under, Akin said, ‘I am honoured to be acknowledged by the Australian Fellowship and the
AHFA’s in this unbelievable way. Being recognised by my peers on the other side of the world was mind-blowing! I was staggered by the
standard of work at the judging of the AHFA’s and would like to thank Michelle and her team for providing such a wonderful platform
to recognise the talents of so many brilliant hairdressers’.

Moroccan Oil Empowers All-Purpose Restorative
www.kiehls.com - Kiehl’s ‘Superbly Restorative
Body Lotion’ is billed as a “hydrating, antioxidant moisturizer for improved skin tone and elasticity” and has become a very popular
product in Canadian markets. The lotion is made using Argan oil, which is sourced from a fair-trade women’s co-op in Morocco, and
contains essential fatty acids and a blend of polyphenols that give the skin an antioxidant boost.
The product line also includes a “Dry Oil” which for many is the coolest addition to the available
Argan-based products. The oil literally dries instantly but does triple duty as a restorative, being used for the face, body and for
the hair. The dry oil smoothes split ends in the hair, moisturizes and softens the skin as well as giving it a glossy, satiny glow.
The Restorative Lotion is currently marketed at $35.00 (Canadian Dollars) for 200 ml, and the Dry Oil is
available for $30.00 (Canadian Dollars) for 125 ml. These and other products in the “Superbly Restorative” line are available at

Industry Leaders Gathering at Natural Beauty Summit
London, United Kingdom – From May 15th through the 17th in New York, founders, presidents and CEOs of the leading
companies in the natural cosmetics industry will be gathering to discuss and debate the key issues facing the industry in the coming
years. These issues include areas of natural and organic products and the sustainability of the resources needed to produce them.
One of the highest priority issues on the agenda for the summit is the creation, definition and adoption
of private standards which are meant to help create a clear demarcation between truly pure and natural/organic cosmetic products and
those who are only “pseudo-products” meant to give lip-service to the concept of natural products. Analysts expect this summit to
cause an industry-wide shake-up.
The exact details of major standards like NSF and OASIS will be unveiled and the standards session will
also feature the new Whole Foods Premium Body Care standard as well as offering updates on the harmonized European natural and organic
standards. There will also be a panel discussion looking at the potential of creation and implementation of global standards
harmonization to create a universal guideline and standard for all companies to follow worldwide.
Other features of the summit will include workshops, lectures and panel discussions on topics ranging
from sustainable packaging, to the benefits and properties of various natural cosmetic ingredients.
