Cut an Inverted Bob

Q: What is the best way to cut an inverted bob? What techniques are required?

A: Well first you have to understand that the inverted bob differs from a traditional bob in that it has a lot of layering around the perimeter of the style. This is where the style gets its name. While a regular bob usually increases in bulk from the crown and pariental ridge toward the ends of the hair, the inverted bob’s layering is designed to taper the hair towards the ends (at the nape and sides) so that the majority of the bulk is present at the crown and parietal ridge.

You can approach this in a couple of ways. You can create the cut in a normal fashion (for a bob) and layer the upper sections as you go, or you can complete a blunt bob and add layering afterward using a razor tool or scissors using a slide method or deep-angled notching.

The exact techniques can vary greatly depending on the specifics of the style you are going for, so think carefully about what you want to achieve and plan out your work accordingly.
