Size of Rollers
Q: I found this page and when I saw the pictures of the results from the rollers, I thought they were the perfect type of result
that I wanted. What I wanted to know was: What was the size of the rollers 1 inch, 1 1/2 inch? I really want to create the same look
without using the magnetic rollers. Will using foam rollers give the same result? And what size do the foam rollers have to be? Thank
you so much. If you can respond, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
A: The rollers used in the “Long Hair Roller Set” demonstration were the Red (1-1/2 inch) and Turquoise (1-1/4 inch) sizes, and were
selected because of the length of the hair. The determining factor in creating a certain look is using the right size of roller: the
smaller the roller, the tighter the curl.
You can get a similar look in long hair by using sponge rollers, but you will need to use very large
sponge rollers.
The great benefit of sponge rollers is that they are more comfortable and because of the “spongy”
nature create a variation in the curls, which often creates a more natural looking style. Generally, sponge rollers do create a tighter
looking curl, so you must take this into consideration when selecting a roller size. If you would normally use a 1-1/2 inch magnetic
roller (plastic), then I would suggest at least a 1-3/4 inch sponge roller.
