Q: I have short grey hair that I've been dyeing for years. I hate it when it starts to grow out and I need to re-dye. I want to
just go all grey at once. Can I use Colorfix to remove the color from my hair so I will be grey?
What is the best way to go back to my natural grey? Thanks.
A: I’ve done some research and after reading scores of reviews on the product in question, I can find nothing to indicate that it will
return you to your “natural” gray hair color. That isn’t to say that it won’t, but there’s been no evidence of it working that way.
However, the product does seem to be safe to use, and could make a good “starting step” for getting to a color you can live with while your gray hair grows out.
What I would recommend, is that you use the product (as directed, possibly leaving out the
processing step as reports indicate that it tends to be very harsh on the hair and causes a re-darkening) to lighten the color. After
that, I would suggest aiming for a pale blonde color that is in the cool range (with a blue base color).
I know that this won’t get you your true gray hair, but it will give you a haircolor that will be
an easier transitional color as your gray hair grows out. I don’t know of anything that will give you your natural gray color, however,
you can reach a color that is less contrasting, which will allow for a subtler transition.
