Hair Burned with Iron
Q: What can I do if I burned a piece of my hair with an iron?
A: The best way to handle this situation depends on how badly damaged the hair is. I would suggest that first you apply a coat of
moisture-rich conditioner to the damaged hair and let it sit for at least 20 minutes then rinse it away using cool-to-lukewarm water.
Pat the hair dry using a towel (be sure to be VERY gentle) and apply a smoothing, anti-frizz serum to help smooth and coat the cuticle layer). Allow the hair to air-dry naturally or simply wrap the hair in a towel turban-fashion and allow the towel to wick away the
moisture.
Avoid using any heat styling on the hair or any styling products that contain alcohol as it will
further dry-out the damaged hair. You will also want to examine the damaged hair closely and may need to cut away the most damaged areas.
Unless these areas are very small, or in an inconspicuous place where they can be disguised by other hair, you should consult a
professional stylist to get the damaged hair trimmed away.
Unfortunately, severely damaged hair cannot be “healed”. Your salon professional can often do more
for you than you can do on your own, and I would highly recommend visiting a salon if the burned hair looks to be too badly damaged.
